Pastor for George Community Church
Location: George, Clackamas County, Oregon
About George Community: George Community Church (GCC) is a
nondenominational, Bible-believing congregation dedicated to shining the
light of Jesus in its community. Founded in an old schoolhouse in 1969, the
church moved into a new building in 1981 with 164 in attendance. GCC
offers Sunday services, communion, women’s bible studies, men’s study
breakfasts, Sunday school, harvest parties, community picnics and vacation
bible school. With 6 pastors plus interim pastors since its inception, GCC
currently has approximately 25 members (plus additional regular
attendees) aged 10-80, as of 2021. The church is located in a beautiful
community 20 minutes from Estacada and Sandy, with an 8-mile loop
consisting of approximately 300 homes.
Position Summary:
Qualifications and Responsibilities:
1. Spiritual Maturity and Faithfulness
• Demonstrate through prayer, study of scripture, and a personal
relationship with Jesus Christ, modeling a life aligned with Christian
values.
• Lead by example (1 Timothy 4:12), fostering spiritual authenticity and
growth in the congregation.
2. Biblical Knowledge and Teaching Ability
• Possess a solid understanding of scripture and the ability to preach
and teach it clearly, accurately, and in a way that connects with the
congregation.
• “Feed the sheep” with God’s Word (John 21:17), equipping the
church for faith and service (Ephesians 4:11-12).
3. Servant Leadership
• Exhibit a pastor’s heart with humility, putting the needs of the
congregation above personal ambition, modeled after Jesus
washing the disciples’ feet (John 13:14-15).
• Serve in a small church setting where the pastor often wears many
hats, requiring a willingness to serve rather than dictate.
4. Compassion and Pastoral Care
• Genuinely care for people, offering comfort, counsel, and presence in
times of joy and hardship.
•Small congregations thrive on personal relationships with the pastor
and his wife often becoming a primary source of support (Galatians
6:2).
5. Relational Skills
• Connect well with diverse ages and personalities, fostering unity in a
small, often family-like congregation.
• Navigate relationships with grace (Colossians 3:12-13), be involved
in members lives and help resolve conflicts peacefully.
Additional Expectations:
• Community Engagement: Actively participate in and support GCC’s
community-focused programs (e.g., picnics, VBS) to strengthen the
church’s witness in George. Actively lead in recruiting new members from
the community.
• Flexibility: Adapt to the needs of a small congregation with limited
resources, contributing to a variety of church activities.
• Availability: Be present for Sunday services and key events, serving a
membership spread across ages 10-80.
